Shaping Eyebrows
Shaping eyebrows is my least favorite beauty task, but the end result of this dreaded beauty routine are always worth the trouble.
Rule #1: Avoid mistakes by shaping eyebrows one hair at a time.
Rule #2: When you have the tweezers securely on one hair, pull the hair out fast to lessen the pain.
Rule #3: Use good eyebrow scissors and tweezers.
- Cleanse the eyebrow area with mild soap and water.
- Draw an outline of how you want your brows shaped. A white eyeliner pencil is a nice tool to use for this step.
- Numb the area with ice, anbesol, orajel, or any baby teething product to dull the pain.
How to shape eyebrows
Top of Brow:
- Brush the hairs on the brows straight up, and then begin shaping eyebrows one hair at a time along the top with scissors.
- Tweeze the stray fine hairs directly above the eyebrows to clean up the area one hair at a time.
- Tweeze between the brows above the nose, removing all hair. It's important to hold the tweezers as close to the skin as possible to reduce the pain.
Under the Brow:
- Shape the bottom portion of the eyebrows with your tweezers, using your penciled-in area as your guide.
- Work slowly, and remember to step back and look after tweezing only a few hairs.
- Remember that shaping eyebrows one hair at a time will give you the best results.

1. Vertically, (straight up) hold a ruler or small straight object against the outside edge of the nose and up to your brow.
- Make a mark on your right eyebrow to the left of your tool.
- Reverse this step for the left eyebrow.
This mark indicates where the brow should begin.
2. Vertically, hold your tool at the center of your pupil up to the brow.
- Make a mark on your right eyebrow to the left of your tool.
- Reverse this step for the left brow.
This is the area where you may want to transition into an arch. All eyes differ, as well as all eyebrows. Therefore, this is not a rule set in stone, but rather a guideline to help when shaping eyebrows.
3. Place your tool from the outer edge of your nostril to the ending of your eye and up to the eyebrow area.
- Make a mark on your right eyebrow to the left of your tool.
- Reverse this step for your left brow.
This mark indicates where your eyebrow should end.
With a little practice, you'll find shaping eyebrows is easier than what you first thought.
