Menopause - A Positive Journey

Menopause, A Positive Journey
by DJ Rogers

First your stumbled through puberty, sweated, ached, and grumped through perimenopause, and now you have reached menopause.  Menopause is marked in a woman's life when her monthly "friend" hasn't visited for 12 consecutive months.  In my opinion, puberty and perimenopause are the toughest stages for most women. Once we make it through puberty and perimenopause, the rest is easy.  Women DREAD menopause, but I think it is because it's not really understood.  It is getting TO menopause that's tough.

Once you reach menopause, how do you accept it in a positive way, instead of thinking it a curse?  The mood swings are pretty much over, hormone levels level out, no more periods, no more worrying about pregnancy, no more hot flashes  but you'll most likely have some hot flashes the rest of your life say  women in their 80's and 90's.  Awe, we got to hang on to something of our youth - right?

When a woman has reached menopause, there are many blessings to count.  By then, women are usually more financially secure - if they aren't, they have the wisdom behind them to change it.  There are no longer trips to the store at eleven o’clock at night for the necessities of the monthly cycle. Just think of all the money you’ll be saving; and you can wear white again without fear!

There's no more worrying about if you took the “pill”, or pacing because your monthly "friend" is late.
There's no more cramping or running to the bathroom while you’re with a client; no more bloating and not being able to wear your skinny pants when you feel like it.

When a woman reaches menopause, the mood swings almost magically disappear, and you feel more confident as a woman (I personally think this has to do with our testosterone level). It becomes easier to communicate with strangers; and you feel you can better handle what life throws at you.

Do you remember what it was like when you had your first period? While you may have felt a bit awkward, nonetheless, your body changed, and you adapted. The same is true of menopause.
During menopause there are times of awkwardness as you learn to adapt to your changing body, both physically and emotionally. It is difficult losing our youth - crushing is more the right word. The days of being the youngest and prettiest woman in the room are gone, but inside ... you are a better woman. You’ve experienced life, and you know secrets that younger women have yet to discover.

Once you learn to accept menopause, you will once again embrace life, but with even more wonder and excitement. It’s a time for yourself; a time you’ve earned. Menopause is a woman's right-of-passage into the next stage of live.  We all go through it if we are blessed to live that long.  Embrace the moment of menopause and enjoy the journey that is before you.
