Hiding a Bruised Eye with Makeup

Hiding a bruised eye with makeup is not always easy, but it can be done fairly well with these makeup tips.

While on vacation, I took an ugly fall at the zoo and had to learn quickly how to go about hiding a bruised eye with makeup.  Following are the steps I took to effectively hide my black eye.

  • Apply a good amount of yellow tint concealer to the discolored areas.
  • Follow concealer with dry mineral powder foundation.
  • Use eyeshadow on the eyelid to match the color of your bruise.
  • Use cream colored eyeshadow under the brow.
  • Do not use eyeliner - it makes the eye look worse when swollen.
  • Apply four coats of mascara to draw attention more to the lashes and not the lid.
  •  Stay away from frosted and shimmery eye shadows; they naturally draw attention to the eye area; instead, use a matte or satin eyeshadow.
  • Always work very gently around a wounded eye.
P.S.  If your bruised eye is the result of domestic violence, please ask a friend, family member, or social services for help.  No one deserves a beating.
