Eyeshadow Tips

for the "Natural Look"

One of the most frequently requested beauty tips that we receive is for eyeshadow tips for the natural look.  Different looks come and go, but the natural look for the eyes seems to always be in style.

Every artist uses something that inspires his or her use of color. For a kaleidoscope of natural eye makeup colors, you needn’t look any further than the iris of your own eyes for color inspiration.

Eyeshadow Color Guide

  • Baby Blue Eyes: Experiment with oranges containing warm undertones of brown, bronze, or copper.
  • Delicious Green Eyes: Try taupe, plum, or violet.
  • Chameleon Hazel Eyes: Try colors that include yellow undertones of deep green, gold, or lavender.
  • For Earthy Brown Eyes: All colors look great on you. Experiment with gray, blue, purple, or pink.

Natural Brown Eyeshadow for the Natural Look

The “Natural Look” for the eyes is always in style. To achieve the effect, use matte eyeshadow, instead of eyeshadow that is frosted or shimmer.

Use a light touch when applying one of the beautiful mid-tone brown eyeshadows that are available.

Carry the color from your lid, and up slightly above the crease of the eye. Just below the brow, highlight this area with a cream or rose matte eyeshadow, or highlighter. A makeup brush, not a sponge will give you the best results.

Open up those beautiful eyes with light...

Celebrities know the secret, and so should you. To open up the eyes for a more youthful appearance, use pale eyeshadow (cream is a favorite) on the lid of the eye. Next, add color in the crease of the eye (rose, light sand, or beige).

Soft, Even, and Sheer Eyeshadow (one of my favorite tips)

For soft, even and sheer eyeshadow, try these 4 simple steps.

  1. Load your eyeshadow brush with color.
  2. Wipe your brush back and forth on a tissue, or the back of your hand. This removes a lot of the color, but that's ok - this is where the magic happens.
  3. Use your brush to apply the color onto the eye lid.
  4. Reload your brush and build up the color if more is needed

Dark Eyeshadow

Real Colors Smolder-Eyes Shadow Palette FeignIf you favor dark eye shadow colors (navy blue, black, dark brown, and charcoal gray), you know it is very easy to apply too much. As mentioned before, wipe your brush on a tissue before applying these color to your eyes.

Eyeshadow brushes

  • Use a soft eyeshadow brush, instead of a sponge applicator when applying eyeshadow to the lids and under the brow.
  • Use an eye crease brush for the crease of the eye.
  • Have several brushes available to avoid mixing your colors. Colors loose their vibrancy when mixed together.

Eye makeup for women over 40

For beautifully soft eyeshadow for women over 40 that adds color, but not age, use light strokes with a small amount of color on your eyeshadow brush. You can always add more eyeshadow if needed, but overloading your eyes with color can add years to your face.

Concealer Beauty Tip
Eye Primer
Do you have a problem with eyeshadow that wears off shortly after application? If you do, apply eye primer before applying your eyeshadow, allowing the primer to completely dry before applying your eyeshadow for a long lasting natural look.
