Best Way to Remove Eye Makeup
The best way to remove eye makeup is with an eye makeup remover. The combination of very thin skin around the eye area and difficult to remove cosmetics makes an eye removal product a necessity. However, many women shy away from eye makeup remover because they find it greasy, or their makeup doesn't seem to stay on very long after using it.
The best way to remove eye makeup is to apply a very small amount of eye makeup remover to a cotton ball, or cosmetic cotton swab, and then gently wipe away the makeup Use a second cotton ball to wipe away remaining traces of makeup.
To finish, wash the entire face with a gentle facial cleanser. Pat dry, and apply moisturizer.
Makeup Removers: Oil-free or Oil-Based?
Oil-Free Makeup Removers
- Are easier to remove than oil-based removers.
- Will not clog the pores of your skin.
- Gently removes eye makeup without pulling and tugging.
- Eliminates pulling the eyelashes.
- Gently removes lipsticks, lip gloss and lip liners from the lips.
Oil-Based Eye Makeup Removers
- Can clog the skin's pores.
- Oil-based removers are themselves difficult to remove.
- Small traces of oil-based makeup remover can travel from the lashes into the eyes resulting in temporary blurry vision.
- Avoid using oil-based eye makeup remover if you are a contact wearer.
- Remaining traces of oil-based makeup remover can cause eye makeup to slide off and/or cake on the face.
Shortening Makeup Remover
When in a pinch without your eye makeup remover, put a small dab of shortening on a cotton ball, or whatever your can find that is soft, and use it in place of your makeup remover.
Note: Shortening is not recommended for contact wearers because it can get between the contact and eye causing irritation and/or blurry vision.
